Our Results: WAVE has made a practical difference to the lives of real people

Below are some examples of how WAVE has already made a practical difference in the UK:

  1. Our top recommended programme Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) is currently benefitting over 9,000 families

  2. We were instrumental in introducing the Roots of Empathy (which teaches schoolchildren how to attune with babies)

  3. We have influenced police forces (including the Met) to adopt our case for the importance of early-years intervention

  4. Through our presentations and education, the government definition of the age for 'early' intervention changed from age 8 to the 0-3 age group

  5. We have brought the subject of early-years intervention to the forefront of political thinking and discussion

  6. We have helped local authorities to advance their practice and implementation of preventive strategies (crucially important because local authorities are increasingly responsible for deciding how public services are delivered and targets achieved)

  7. Cross-party co-operation achieved on Early Intervention

  8. The significance (danger) of adverse early childhood experience on later life outcomes has begun to be accepted

  9. A Scottish strategy for early intervention

  10. Through our presentations, growing acceptance of the importance of the early years among service deliverers in Northern Ireland
