Rob was very badly abused in early childhood. He ran away from home in his teens and lived on the streets. Rob has used alcohol and drugs as coping mechanisms. Unlike many people with similar histories, Rob managed to clean up his life and he now works with drug and alcohol abusers in Axminster, Devon.
Of the 70/30 Initiative, Rob says:
'I saw an advert back in 2015 asking if I wanted to make a difference – yes I did. It was an advert for the 70/30 campaign. With a few phone calls and research I was accepted into the fold of this family and I became a 70/30 Ambassador; my role was to talk with MPs and tell them my story and stories of other people – and what we can do to make this right. My MP was brilliant. He listened and he was transfixed with how much pain one can carry – and how even after all that I still wanted to make a difference – and he tweeted me, he blogged me, I even got into the paper five times plus an online version!'
The people actively involved in the 70/30 Initiative are many and diverse. They include people who have experienced disadvantage, counsellors, therapists, teachers, mayors, bishops, local councillors, early years professionals and families, as well as local and national elected representatives from all political parties, and local and national press.
70/30 Ambassadors are people, whatever their occupation, who are trained by WAVE Trust to be impactful change-makers in their local communities. They take part in national monthly conference calls to share learning, report successes & challenges, and seek advice from the WAVE team. Ambassadors improve their knowledge and skills during these calls by hearing from eminent expert speakers on relevant topics such as Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Domestic Violence, and Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Please support and promote WAVE to maintain and grow the 70/30 Network. This is how we will make large-scale social transformation happen.
