He is a medical doctor who practiced as a G.P. in Canada and subsequently moved to the U K in 1987 where he engaged in training in Anaesthetics, A &E, and Psychiatry. He also trained in Psychosynthesis, as well as Process Oriented Psychology. David works with people to help them through very difficult emotional periods of their lives. He is passionate in helping communities and families develop Preventative Health Care in Scotland where he now resides.
Sergio Sekhon Sergio Sekhon joined WAVE Trust's Board of Trustees in July 2024 having been an IT volunteer Expand Sergio joined the Board of Trustees in July 2024. Although Sergio is our youngest trustee, nevertheless he has been an active and reliable volunteer since 2014 helping with administrative and IT problems. He also advises WAVE on cyber security and many aspects of technology. Sergio's support enables WAVE to work efficiently. He cares deeply about WAVE's work seeing it as essential to social transformation. Sergio is working hard to grow his property business. In his spare time, Sergio enjoys personal development, and travelling and has been fortunate to spend weeks at a time in places such as Bulgaria and Indonesia.
Mr Colin Sarre Colin spent nearly 40 years as a city professional working in financial markets. He was appointed as a trustee in 2018 Expand When he retired, Colin wanted to give something back to society. He is now non-executive Director for a multi-academy Trust, a community mediator, a mentor for University students and, most recently, he joined the WAVE Trust Board. In this latter role, Colin is inspired by the work the charity plays in developing and implementing solutions to prevent and heal adverse childhood experiences. Colin's own family experience had already made him aware of how the right support can make all the difference to new parents. Colin states: 'I recognise the importance of pro-active intervention in the early years. Through WAVE Trust, I hope to help other families just as we were helped'.
Professor Sir Harry Burns Professor Sir Harry Burns is based in Strathclyde University in its Health and Care Futures Group Expand Harry Burns graduated in medicine from Glasgow University in 1974. For the first 15 years ofhis career, he was a surgeon and, for 5 years, was Senior Lecturer and Honorary ConsultantSurgeon in Sir David Carters unit in Glasgow Royal Infirmary. It was working in the east endof Glasgow that made him interested in the causes of wellbeing rather than the treatmentof illness. He trained in Public Health, was Medical Director of the Royal Infirmary, Directorof Public Health for Glasgow and, from 2005 until 2014 was Chief Medical Officer forScotland.As a surgeon, he researched the metabolic response to illness and injury. His interest inhealth inequalities has also centred on the biological consequences of poverty and socialdisparity. His studies have included the economic impact of health and social inequalities.He was Knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2011 and in 2014 was awarded aLifetime Achievement Award for Public Service which was presented by the First Minister onbehalf of the Scottish Government and Parliament.He currently works as a Professor at Strathclyde University in its Health and Care FuturesGroup.
Anthoulla Koutsoudi Anthoulla Is WAVE's Company Secretary and Director of External Relations Expand Anthoulla was a solicitor in private legal practice for 27 years until 2009, specialising in commercial property transactions and non-contentious legal work. During the years leading up to 2009, she provided pro-bono and financial support to WAVE. WAVE’s ever-growing sphere of influence and achievements led to an expansion of opportunities for the organisation to achieve social transformation. The possibilities excited Anthoulla such that she could no longer remain in the law. She left the legal profession in 2010 to join the management team, enabling her to present WAVE's preventive message and strategic solutions to audiences throughout the UK. Anthoulla fulfills three key roles within WAVE: Company Secretary and in-house lawyer, including handling all internal and third party contracts, governance, dealing with Companies House & Charity Commission requirements, and liaising with and chairing the Board of Trustees. Delivering Presentations across the UK on Trauma-informed Practice Director of External Relations and major donor fundraiser, including engaging with major supporters and ambassadors.
