The 70/30 Campaign has hit a new milestone in its mission to reduce levels of child maltreatment nationwide after securing its 500th MP endorser.

With the endorsement of John Penrose MP, the campaign now has the support of 77% of the UK Parliament.

This is in addition to the support of 87% of Scottish Parliament MSPs, 73% of Welsh Assembly AMs and 69% of Northern Irish Assembly MLAs.

The 70/30 Campaign aims to reduce child maltreatment (child abuse, neglect and domestic violence) by 70% by 2030.

The 500th endorser

John Penrose MP, Member of Parliament for Weston-super-Mare and Chairman of the Conservative Policy Forum, said:

“WAVE Trust's work to improve child development so more of us can live proudly-independent, emotionally-resilient adult lives is absolutely critical. An ounce of prevention is worth a tonne of cure, so problems don’t have a chance to become deeply embedded. That’s why I believe we need evidence-based programmes which are proven to nip problems in the bud, and why I’m looking forward to working with the WAVE Trust to bring this about.”

Alex Williamson, our 70/30 Campaign Officer and 70/30 Ambassador Coordinator, said:

“I am delighted that 70/30 is now supported by 500 MPs, and this is a testimony to the countless hours of hard work that have been put in by the ambassador network. Over these last few years, I have been able to directly observe a growing awareness of the issues around child maltreatment and intergenerational trauma within our representatives and I believe this will ultimately manifest in governments across the United Kingdom taking the tangible  action they need to do in order to bring about real change.”
