70/30 Campaign ambassadors achieved a string of successes across September 2021 throughout the UK, Scottish and Welsh Parliaments. 

This past month, a UK Parliamentary motion praising 70/30 and WAVE Trust broke into the top 5 motions for this 2021/22 session; our 100th MSP in this Scottish Parliament signed up as an endorser; and we passed the 70% threshold for endorsements in the Welsh Assembly.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the wonderful ambassadors who continue to push this cause strongly across the UK and Ireland, and who all share in these latest successes.

 

One of the most popular motions

The aforementioned UK Parliamentary motion (see here) states that over two-thirds of MPs have endorsed the 70/30 Campaign and calls on the Government to adopt a comprehensive early years’ strategy to prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE).

As of 2nd October 2021, it had reached 5th place out of 487 motions in the 2021/22 session so far.

It has currently secured 78 MP signatures, spanning 7 parties (Liberal Democrats, Democratic Unionist Party SNP, Labour, Conservatives, Alba Party, Plaid Cymru), plus 2 independents. The motions above it have 104, 99, 97 and 91 signatures, respectively.

 

Growing support in Scotland and Wales

During September, we secured our 100th MSP in this Scottish Parliamentary term when Maggie Chapman MSP chose to endorse the 70/30 Campaign.

As of 2nd October 2021, Maggie joins a total of now 106 MSPs overall, representing 82% of Parliament and spanning the Scottish National Party, Conservatives, Labour, Green Party and Liberal Democrats.

Further south, we also crossed the 70% threshold in Wales, with 43 out of 60 Welsh Assembly Members (AMs) now signed up.

 

How to take this to the next level?

We would encourage all supporters of the 70/30 Campaign (to reduce child maltreatment by 70% by 2030) to reach out to your MP if they have not yet signed the UK Parliamentary motion yet and encourage them to do so.* You can see if they have signed it here.
